.oOo. Prologue .oOo.
.:oOo:. History of the Homeland .:oOo:.
Once upon a time, there lived an utmost infamous herd known as the Koraks, their leader, a silver mare known as Bluegrass, had recently died, leaving two sons in her place. Their names were Tiger and Thundersky. Tiger was golden with a black mane and tail with a black nose, and faint black stripes spread across his neck, back, and sides with pale green eyes. Thundersky was gray with a dark gray lightning-shaped marking across his left eye. He had a dark gray mane and tail with dark green eyes. They were the sons of a outlaw stallion known as Duke.
One day, Tiger ran away with a pale golden mare called Sunlight, leaving his younger brother with the responsibilities of the herd. Thundersky fell in love with a mare called Dappled Gray. Dappled Gray was a silver mare with darker gray dapples on her rump and darker silver mane and tail with beautiful icy blue eyes. Thundersky and Dappled Gray fell in love and had a son, who is known to the human-race as Legendary Thunderstrike, but Thundersky and Dappled Gray called him Thunderstrike.
The humans of Willowing Shine Stables heard of this "Korak Herd" and became horse-hungry and sent raids everyday, all of them repelled by Thundersky and his guard of mature horses. His guard included mature stallions and strong mares who wished to be apart of the guard. The raids became more frequent, so all of the horses were ordered by Thundersky to stay close to the guard.
.:oOo:. Two of a Kind .:oOo:.
Thundersky's gray ears shot foreword and he lifted his nose to the air and sniffed. Kodiak, the stallion who resembled Thundersky's brother Tiger the most,(minus the stripes, and Kodiak had black spots on his eyes) flicked his ears foreword also. His head fell to the ground and he bared he bright white teeth and snorted at Thundersky. The lead stallion nickered, 'Assemble the guard', before trotting off. Kodiak was Thundersky's second-in-command of the herd, so he was charge of assembling the herd's guard when needed. Kodiak's head went to the air and he shrieked into the air, 'Assemble, guard'.
Instantly, stallions and mares parted from the herd and assembled in front of Kodiak. Spade, a pitch black mare, nickered curiously from her place beside Sasha, a pure chestnut mare. Kodiak waited patiently as Thundersky arrived with Dappled Gray and whinnied at his guard and lifted his head to the air and sniffed the misty nighttime breeze. The guard did the same and they all picked up Human-scent. Kodiak looked at Thundersky and the lead stallion's ears flicked back and forth. Kodiak stamped his hooves and nickered. The guard raced off towards the herd.
Dappled Gray whinnied worriedly and pressed herself against her mate's side and snorted. Thundersky nickered reassuringly to his mate and trotted off, unaware that he was being watched by a whole group of humans on horse mounts. Suddenly they burst foreword and charged towards the herd. They made a path through the middle of the herd while mares, foals, and stallions charged off in alarm. Dappled Gray led most of the mares, their foals, and some stallions off in one direction, including her colt, Thunder.
Thundersky led some mares, their foals, and most of the stallions in the other direction, but then more riders burst from the bushes. 'Protect the mares!' Thundersky screeched. Instantly, all of the stallions surrounded the mares as they stopped. Thundersky screeched again and the stallions charged at the riders and blocked them as Kodiak, Ace, and Dusty led Sasha, Spade, Topaz, Singer, Berry, and Kokqi into the forest. The remaining stallions reformed and burst past the riders as soon as they gave the escapees enough time to run.
.:.:oOoOo:.:.oOoOo.:.:oOoOo:.:.oOoOo.:.:oOoOo:.:.
Dappled Gray broke into the escapee's path as they reached the stonewall. Kodiak and his mate, Spade, turned and ran back to distract the oncoming riders that broke away from Thundersky and his stallions. Sasha helped Dappled Gray over the stonewall and they both helped Topaz up.
Once on top of the wall, Topaz leapt down onto the other side and helped the others who came after her. Next up was Singer, then Berry, then Kokqi, then Dusty, then Sasha, then Ace. Once Ace was on the wall there were gunshots fired in the distance followed by Spade's scream of sorrow.
Ace helped Dappled Gray down after him and the chocolate brown stallion with short dark brown mane and tail led the group foreword.
.:.:oOoOo:.:.oOoOo.:.:oOoOo:.:.oOoOo.:.:oOoOo:.:.
Thundersky leapt over the fallen log in his path as he led the rest of his guard towards the stonewall. A gunshot split the nighttime air and was followed by a scream of sorrow belonging to Spade. Zeus and Lightning Gale gave each other fearful glances as they neared their target.
.:.:oOoOo:.:.oOoOo.:.:oOoOo:.:.oOoOo.:.:oOoOo:.:.
Kodiak leapt forward at the appaloosa mare and was close to biting her mane and forcing her off when the mare's rider cocked his rifle and aimed it at him. Spade lurched forward and knocked the mare off her feet, earning a shriek of surprise from the elder horse. Kodiak leapt forward and was stopped in his tracks when the riders pulled the trigger on his rifle and blew Kodiak's blood all over the ground and bushes. He staggered back as blood streamed down his neck and fell to his side, dead.
Spade screamed in painful sorrow and while she did the appaloosa leapt to her feet and delivered a blow to the pitch black mare's mouth, and bright blood flowed down her chin as she shook her head from side-to-side in pain. She darted past the appaloosa mare and bared her, now bloodied, white teeth and snapped down inches away from the human's face. She reared back, ready to kill the human when the appaloosa rammed into her side. Spade fell in a heap on top of Kodiak's dead body and struggled to her feet.
.:.:oOoOo:.:.oOoOo.:.:oOoOo:.:.oOoOo.:.:oOoOo:.:.
Thundersky led his group into the clearing as human riders burst from the bushes. Ropes flew through the air and landed on unsuspecting horses. Thundersky raced towards the human with the rope and rammed against the horse he was on. The stallion shrieked in alarm and bolted from under the rider.
Zeus and Lightning Gale charged at one rider and then another, but then they stopped in their tracks as they heard a mare's whiny of despair. Out of the bushes was a rider perched on a bloody pelted appaloosa mare, a rope in his hand attached to a mare behind him, which was Spade.
Without Kodiak.
.:.:oOoOo:.:.oOoOo.:.:oOoOo:.:.oOoOo.:.:oOoOo:.:.
Ace had led the group of horses to a quiet ravine, at least four miles away from the stonewall. Sasha nickered next to him, sensing his distress. Berry and Singer whinnied from under Kokqi. Topaz and Dappled Gray looked at Dusty hopefully. Dappled Gray whinnied despairingly at him.
The silver stallion with dark gray dapples lowered his head and blew on the grass at his feet. Ace flicked his eats back at Dusty's display.Be more hopeful! he seemed to say to the silver stallion. Dusty lifted his head and neighed at the brown pelted stallion. I won't have false hope like you! Dusty roared. Ace lowered his head. Sasha, Topaz, Dappled Gray, and Kokqi exchanged worried glances.
.:.:oOoOo:.:.oOoOo.:.:oOoOo:.:.oOoOo.:.:oOoOo:.:.
Thundersky screamed as Zeus was dragged forward and his rope halter was tied to the stake in front of him. The human cocked his gun, aimed at the defenseless stallion and a loud bang filled the air and a scream from the horses, and the dark golden pelted stallion fell lifeless to the ground. Next they dragged Spade forward and shoved her forward and then tied her to the post. The same thing happened and her lifeless body fell to the floor. Lightning Gale followed and finally, Thundersky was tied to the post.
Thundersky screamed and slashed at the rope that meant his death and ran back and forth until a shot rang through the air at him. Thundersky felt a red hot flash of pain in his neck, shock filling his body and he fell to the ground, the life slowly bleeding out of him. His blue eyes became unfocused and his dying sight was the sight of his son, Thunder, screaming for him, Dappled Gray was no-where in sight.
